Designed to help both employers and employees with an understanding of the legislative and jurisprudential employment law activism brought on as both a cause and result of a changing workplace, the 2020 edition of Louisiana Employment Law (Thomson Reuters) has been published. The edition is authored by Taylor Porter attorneys Rick Norman, Joe Norman, and Jud Norman.
The edition identifies, organizes, and analyzes developments regarding the employment relationship in Louisiana, and it covers employment liability and contracts, discrimination, compensation and payment, employee benefits, leaves of absence, and safety issues.
Taylor Porter Special Counsel Rick Norman has represented southwest Louisiana business and industry clients for 35 years, and leads the Taylor Porter Lake Charles office. He currently serves on the Employment Law Advisory Commission for the Louisiana State Bar Association Board of Legal Specialization. Norman enjoys an “AV” rating from the Martindale-Hubbell rating agency, which is the highest rating given for ability and ethics. He is a “Top Rated Lawyer” in the field of litigation as determined by Martindale-Hubbell, and he was selected a "Top Rated Lawyer" in the field of commercial litigation by Acadiana Profile Magazine. On Jan. 1, 2020, Norman will step into the role of President of the Louisiana State Law Institute, an arm of the Louisiana legislature that studies and drafts legislation. He also serves on Law Institute committees rewriting the Louisiana Wage Payment Act and the Louisiana Limited Liability Companies Law. He formerly served on the committee that rewrote the Louisiana Business Corporations Law in 2015.
Practicing law since 2015, Joe Norman is an associate in the Taylor Porter Lake Charles office. Norman practices in the areas of commercial law and commercial litigation, and he has experience in corporate transactional work, as well as experience in prosecution and defense of federal and state employment law actions. He regularly advises businesses on compliance with various federal and state laws concerning employee rights and benefits, including the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the Family & Medical Leave Act (FMLA). Norman earned his B.A. in history and political science in 2012 from McNeese State University. He earned his J.D. in 2015 from LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center.
Practicing law since 2017, Jud Norman is an associate in the Taylor Porter Lake Charles office. He practices commercial law and commercial litigation. Norman earned his bachelor of science from Louisiana State University in 2007. He practiced as a certified mental health specialist before attending Southern University Law Center and earning his J.D. in 2017.
