Federal Court
Lawsuit

LAFAYETTE -- A man is suing his former employer for racial discrimination and a hostile work environment after claiming to have suffered severe racism on the job.

Lorman L. Skinner filed a federal complaint on June 24 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana against American Pollution Control Corporation for violation of the Civil RIghts Act of 1964 and racial discrimination creating a hostile work environment.

Skinner, an African-American male, alleged that while working at American Pollution Control Corporation he experienced racial discrimination. Skinner alleged that he while working at American Pollution Control Corporation, he was making $13 an hour as a technician at its Bayou Vista location.

Skinner alleged that he was called racial slurs. On Skinner's last day, a co-worker came and asked him if he had "found another job" and when asking what the co-worker meant, he learned that he had been terminated, which the company could not provide any reason as to why, the suit says.

Skinner seeks damages, pre- and post-judgement interest, injunctive relief, relief for mental and emotional suffering, attorney's fees and cost of suit. Skinner is represented by James E. Sudduth III of Sudduth and Associates LLC.
