Lawsuit says man was on the job when he was splashed with acid

Federal Court
Acid warning

BATON ROUGE - Jonathan Jeanice filed a federal complaint on July 23 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana against Chem Carriers, LLC and Plaquemine Point Shipyard LLC for negligence.

According to the complaint, Jeanice was an employee of Corrosion Consulting & Inspection LLC in the capacity as a vessel surveyor, inspector, and repairman. On June 2, 2021, Jeanice arrived at Plaquemine Point Shipyard to perform surface preparation inspections on the internal cargo tanks of their barge numbered CCL7, CCL1 and CCL3, the suit says.

During the inspection of CCL1, Jeanice went down the ladder into the tank, as he had with the other two previous tanks, and stepped into some liquid that splashed up onto his leg and into his eye. The liquid caused Jeanice "excruciating pain, loss of sight, and making Plaintiff slip and fall as he screamed for help." Jeanice alleges that he heard someone screaming that the substance was acid.

Jeanice alleges to have suffered sustained loss of eyesight, burns and severe damage to his eye and legs.

Jeanice seeks special and general damages, exemplary and punitive damages, cost of the proceedings and attorney's fees. Jeanice is represented by Jarrett S. Falcon of Falcon Law Firm, PLC.
