NEW ORLEANS — A man is suing JanTran alleging he was injured while he was working on a transportation vessel.

Bruce Oakley Inc. and 10 unknown and unnamed individuals were also named as defendants in the suit.

Justin Pattin was employed by the defendants as a deckhand and was working on July 15, 2021, as a member of the crew on the Lucy Janoush, which was a transportation vessel, according to a complaint filed Oct. 10 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.

Pattin claims he suffered an injury and was rendered unconscious due to heat exhaustion while on the vessel and he fell nearly six feet, striking his shoulder and back.

"As a result of the negligence of the defendants, JanTran, Inc. and/or Bruce Oakley, Inc., Complainant has sustained severe and permanent personal injury to his body and mind to include a surgery to repair his rotator cuff paid for by Defendants and the need for an additional treatment which has been denied, causing great pain and suffering, which prevents him from pursuing his usual occupation, all to his damage in an amount provided for by law," the complaint states.

Pattin claims the accident was a result of negligence, including failure to train staff and/or adequately supply the vessel.

Pattin is seeking Raynetra L. Gustavis of Chhabra & Gibbs in Jackson, Miss.
