NEW ORLEANS — A man is suing his former employer after he was injured while in a shrimp boat.
Ronald P. Verret Jr. was working on a shrimp boat known as the F/V Emery & Jacoby, on Aug. 20, according to a complaint filed Oct. 16 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
Verret, a seaman, claims the shrimp boat was traveling eastbound in Grand Caillious Bayou near its intersection with the Houma Intracoastal Canal in Terrebonne Parish at the same time that the M/V Miss Wynter was traveling northbound in the Houma Intracoastal Canal traveling at an excessive rate of speed and was being unreasonable and unsafe, which create unusually large swells, causing Verret to be thrown down in the boat.
J. Sercovich owned and operated the M/V Miss Wynter and was negligent, according to the suit.
J. Sercovich was careless and failed to maintain control, went at an unsafe speed and violated regulations. These acts resulted in Verret's physical disability, pain, loss of earnings, medical expenses and diminished quality of life.
Verret is seeking $1 million in damages. He is represented by C. Arlen Braud II, Michelle O. Gallagher and Steven D. Jackson of Braud & Gallagher in Mandeville, La.
