NEW ORLEANS – A crewman has filed a negligence lawsuit against Stevens Towing Co. after a co-worker allegedly slammed a hatch door on him, causing him serious injury.

Plaintiff Michael Cascio filed the lawsuit in federal court against Stevens Towing Co. citing allegations of negligence and unseaworthiness under the Jones Act and General Maritime Law.

According to court documents, Cascio was an employee of Stevens Towing serving as a crewmember aboard its vessels. Cascio claims that on January 21, 2022, he was exiting the galley through a watertight hatch door when a co-worker allegedly slammed the door onto Cascio's body, causing him serious injury.

Cascio is demanding a jury trial to seek damages for pain and suffering, mortification, humiliation, fright shock, embarrassment, loss of earnings and earning capacity, medical expenses, mental anguish, plus court costs, attorney fees and any other relief the court deems proper. He is being represented by George P. Vourvoulias III of Harmon, Smith & Vourvoulias in New Orleans.
