NEW ORLEANS – A worker has filed a negligence lawsuit against Talos Third Coast and related entities claiming he suffered severe injuries on an ocean platform when a cable handrail broke, causing him to fall into water.

Anthony Shaw filed his federal compalint against Talos Third Coast, Talos Energy, Talos Energy, Inc. of Delaware, Talos Energy Offshore, and Talos Production.

According to court documents, Shaw was employed by Waveland Services and contracted by Talos to perform sandblasting and painting work aboard the Talos Platform, a fixed-leg platform located offshore of Louisiana. On September 28, 2023, Shaw says he leaned against the cable handrail system on the deck, which unexpectedly broke, causing him to fall into the ocean. Shaw claims to have sustained severe injuries to his neck, lower back, and shoulder.

The complaint claims Talos is liable for damages under the law and statutes of the United States, including the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act and the laws of the State of Louisiana. Shaw's lawsuit cites various forms of negligence, including failing to properly inspect, maintain and repair the premises and equipment, design equipment to prevent injuries, ensure a safe work area, provide a safe place to work, exercise reasonable care and comply with Occupational Health and Safety Administration regulations.

Shaw is seeking a judgement for damages for pain and suffering, mental anguish, medical expenses, loss of wages, disability, disfigurement, and loss of normal life, plus interest, attorney fees, court costs and other relief.

The plaintiff is represented by Spencer Gulden of Morris Bart in New Orleans.
