Woman accuses union, others of race, sex discrimination

Federal Court
Blindjustice

A Black woman has filed a race and sex discrimination lawsuit against a union and others.

Lakeisha Adams filed the complaint in federal court against Ports America Services Inc. and New Orleans Clerks & Checkers Union Home Association Inc.

Adams alleges Ports America and the union violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and other federal laws including Equal Pay Act and the National Labor Relations Act during her employment as a clerk since April 2018.

Ports America is a privately owned U.S. marine terminal operator with about 12,000 employees across the country. The union is reportedly the largest union of maritime workers in North America with about 65,000 members.
