Betsy West, co-director of the Peabody Award-winning documentary “My Name is Pauli Murray,” will attend a special screening of her film at the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center on Friday, Feb. 23, and participate in a panel discussion with LSU Law and LSU faculty members.

Free and open to the public, the symposium will take place in the McKernan Auditorium from 12:30 to 4 p.m. It is being presented by The George W. and Jean H. Pugh Institute for Justice. RSVP to attend.

“My Name is Pauli Murray” follows the life of Pauli Murray, the late lawyer and activist who was instrumental in arguing the equal protection clause of the fourteenth amendment that outlawed discrimination based on sex. The documentary won a prestigious Peabody Award in 2022.

Following the special screening of “My Name is Paul Murray” on Feb. 23, West will join LSU Law Professor Raymond Diamond, and LSU Professors Kodi Roberts (History) and Angeletta Gourdine (English) for a panel discussion.

West is a video journalist and filmmaker who formerly co-directed “RBG,” a theatrical documentary about Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg that was released in 2018. She was also executive producer of the 2013 documentary “Makers: Women Who Make America,” which was narrated by Meryl Streep and distributed by PBS as a three-part TV series.

Along with her husband, filmmaker Oren Jacoby, West is a principal of New York-based production company Storyville Films. She joined the faculty of the Columbia Journalism School in 2009 after a three-decade career in network news. As a producer and executive at ABC News, she received 21 Emmy Awards and two duPont-Columbia Awards.
