Erica Lacey has filed a lawsuit against Novo Nordisk A/S and its subsidiaries in the United States District Court, Middle District of Louisiana. The case, identified as 3:24-cv-00367-BAJ-EWD, was lodged on May 9, 2024. Lacey alleges that she suffered severe injuries due to her use of Ozempic, a prescription medication for type 2 diabetes produced by the defendants.

Lacey's attorneys from Cossich Sumich Parsiola & Taylor, LLC and Douglas & London, P.C., claim that she used Ozempic for approximately three months starting February 2023. She subsequently developed gastroparesis—a condition affecting normal muscle movement in the stomach—and its sequelae leading to severe vomiting, gastrointestinal burning, high blood pressure and an emergency room visit.

The plaintiff is seeking damages exceeding $75,000 exclusive of interest and costs. The court has jurisdiction over this action pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 1332 due to the amount in controversy and because the defendants are incorporated and have their principal places of business in states other than Louisiana where Lacey resides.
