The Southern University Law Center’s Mixed Reality Virtual Innovation Gaming and Esports (MRVIGES) Institute will offer its annual Game Design and Esports Camp from June 17-28 taking place in the Esports Innovation which is located in the Smith-Brown Memorial Student Union on the campus of Southern University and A&M College.

"The opportunity for underrepresented youth to engage in this unique programming is truly priceless, and we are dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment where creativity and skill development go hand in hand,” said Christopher Turner, director of the MRVIGES Institute. “We are enthusiastic about the upcoming camp and the enriching experiences it will offer to all participants."

During the two-week camp, youth will learn about game design, branding, team building, positioning, and more. Games such as Fortnite, Fall Guys, and Rocket League will be used to demonstrate strategies and build skillsets. In addition, players will enjoy an in-camp tournament along with industry guest speakers.

“I am thrilled to announce the exciting addition of two instructors from our esteemed partnership with Urban Arts to our upcoming Game Design & Esports Camp,” said Turner. “This collaboration signifies our commitment to providing a comprehensive experience for the campers, emphasizing not only competition but also the art of game design.”

The camp is for youth ages 8-13 and will run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday- Friday. Registration fees begin at $450 and include a camp shirt and snacks. Before and after-care are available for additional fees. The registration deadline is June 12.
