A lawsuit has been filed alleging serious misconduct by three prominent legal organizations in Lafayette, Louisiana. On August 5, 2024, Jaci Loveless Brasher submitted a complaint to the United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana against the Lafayette Bar Association, Acadiana Legal Services Corporation, and Lafayette Bar Foundation.
The plaintiff, Jaci Loveless Brasher, claims that these organizations have misused federal funds and promoted unethical legal practices that harm families. According to the complaint, on June 27, 2023, Mandy Bore Bucher posted an advertisement on Facebook on behalf of the defendants. The advertisement allegedly suggested that third parties could obtain sole custody of children not legally theirs through fraudulent means such as false accusations of drug use and mental health issues against parents. These tactics purportedly result in significant financial costs and emotional trauma for targeted parents.
Brasher asserts that she has been a victim of such fraudulent proceedings, leading to the unlawful deprivation of care and custody of her minor children. Despite being aware of corruption and unlawful activities in Brasher's case and others in the community, the defendants have failed to provide necessary services or report these issues to appropriate authorities. Instead, they have blocked Brasher on social media platforms for voicing her concerns about their misuse of federal funds.
The plaintiff is seeking multiple forms of relief from the court. She requests an injunction prohibiting the defendants from promoting unethical legal practices and an order compelling them to fulfill their obligations under federal funding requirements. Additionally, she seeks damages to be determined at trial and other relief deemed just by the court.
The case is being handled by pro se plaintiff Jaci Loveless Brasher with no attorneys listed for either party at this time. The presiding judge has yet to be named, and the case ID is 6:24-cv-01046.
