A shocking incident involving a passenger and a bus driver has led to a lawsuit against a major transportation company. Jacqueline Williams filed a complaint in the Civil District Court for the Parish of Orleans, Louisiana, on May 20, 2024, against Greyhound Lines, Inc., and National Union Fire Insurance Company of Pittsburgh, PA. The lawsuit arises from an alleged assault by a Greyhound bus driver that left Williams with serious injuries.

According to the petition for damages, Jacqueline Williams was a ticketed passenger on Greyhound Bus US0602 at the New Orleans Bus Station on September 7, 2023. While waiting for her bus to depart to Atlanta, Georgia, she claims that an unnamed Greyhound bus driver approached her and "suddenly and without provocation" pulled her and her carry-on bag forcefully. This action allegedly resulted in injuries to both her mind and body. The lawsuit states that the driver was acting within the scope of his employment with Greyhound Lines at the time of the incident.

Williams accuses Greyhound Lines of several negligent acts including recklessly causing bodily injury, unlawfully touching her which caused stress and physical injuries, failing to adhere to policies designed to prevent such incidents, negligent hiring practices, and failing to train employees properly. She asserts that these actions are in violation of Louisiana Civil Code Articles 2315 and 2316. Furthermore, she claims no responsibility for the incident herself.

The petition further reveals that National Union Fire Insurance Company had an active policy covering Greyhound Lines at the time of the incident. Williams seeks judgment against both defendants jointly for damages exceeding minimum jury trial requirements. She is seeking compensation for past and future pain and suffering, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life, medical expenses along with legal interest from judicial demand until paid.

Representing Jacqueline Williams are attorneys Megan C. Kiefer (#32882) and Danielle Smith Heath (#34095) from Kiefer and Kiefer law firm based in New Orleans. The case has been filed under Case ID 2024-8459124-cv-02444-JCZ-KWR in Section 10 of the Civil District Court for the Parish of Orleans.
