A Louisiana resident has taken legal action against the United States government following a car accident involving a postal service employee. On February 19, 2025, Jakaira Ligon filed a complaint in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana against the United States of America. The lawsuit stems from an incident where a vehicle operated by a United States Postal Service employee collided with Ligon's car in East Baton Rouge Parish.

According to the complaint, the collision occurred on February 23, 2024, when Jakaira Ligon was driving her Toyota Camry northbound on South Flannery Road. At that time, Quentin Tyron Davis, an employee of the United States Postal Service, was exiting a private driveway in his postal vehicle and failed to yield, resulting in a collision with Ligon's vehicle. The plaintiff asserts that Davis had a duty to operate his vehicle with ordinary care but breached this duty by disregarding traffic laws and failing to maintain control of his vehicle.

Ligon claims that as a result of Davis's negligence, she sustained injuries to her back, chest, wrist, legs, and mind. She is seeking compensation for past and future mental anguish and physical suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, medical expenses, permanent impairment, and damage to her vehicle. The lawsuit argues that under 28 U.S.C. §2679(b)(1), the exclusive remedy for such negligent actions by federal employees is a claim against the United States itself.

The plaintiff also highlights that she submitted an administrative claim to the appropriate federal agency on November 1, 2024. Despite receiving acknowledgment from the United States Postal Service on March 15, 2025, there has been no acceptance or denial of her demands within six months—making this case ripe for judicial intervention according to applicable statutes.

Jakaira Ligon seeks judgment in her favor along with legal interest from the date of judgment until paid and coverage for all proceeding costs. Her legal representation is provided by Tedrick K. Knightshead from Knightshead Law Firm based in Baton Rouge.

The case is presided over by Judge John W. deGravelles with Case ID: 3:25-cv-00154-JWD-EWD.
