Transit Management sued over wheelchair occupant's injuries

In a petition filed in the Civil District for the Parish of Orleans, Transit Management of Southeast Louisiana and the Regional Transit Authority are being sued over a wheelchair occupant's injuries.

Alma Magee, of Orleans Parish, was attempting to get on a bus June 12, 2009, using the handicap lift when a lift operator instructed her to release her brakes and move backwards onto the bus. As she did so her wheelchair fell over causing her injuries, states the complaint filed April 20.

The petition claims that the lift operator failed to inspect the vehicle, properly assist the handicapped passenger and negligently operated the lift.

Magee is seeking relief for past and future physical pain and suffering, past and future mental anguish, past and future medical expenses and other expenses to be proven at trial.

Magee is being represented by William E. Mura Jr. and Warren A. Forstall Jr. of New Orleans.

Orleans Parish case number 10-3975.
