A lawsuit filed April 25 in federal court in New Orleans by the wife of a missing Deepwater Horizon worker is seeking damages for physical and mental injuries.
Pregnant with a second child, Michelle Jones claims in the suit that she does not know whether her husband, Gordon Lewis Jones, is alive or not.
He was an employee working aboard the semi-submersible mobile drilling unit, Deepwater Horizon, in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Louisiana when the explosion occurred on April 20 at about 10 p.m.
Individually and as a personal representative of her minor son, Jones filed suit against Transocean, LTD., BP, ABC Insurance Company and DEF Insurance Company.
She claims her husband's employer and the other defendants are negligent for failing to take all appropriate precautions to avoid an accident and explosion, failing to keep the equipment on board the vessel in proper condition and repair, failing to properly inspect the rig and not having a sufficient number of properly trained personnel performing the job in a safe manner.
She accuses the companies of violating government and industry rules, regulations and standards.
