Tenant claims defective steps caused her to fall

A tenant is suing the owners of an apartment complex after allegedly falling on what the woman calls defective, dangerous steps.

Brenda Grant filed the lawsuit against Property Consolidation, Robert F. Pitard, Real Estate Investments Group of Jefferson David Apartments and Web Services Company May 18 in Orleans Parish District Court. Grant says she was leaving her apartment when she fell on the steps and fractured bones in her hand and fingers.

The plaintiff accuses the defendants of negligence for failing to maintain the premises in a safe condition, failing to properly inspect their premises and have adequate warnings in place to warn tenants of dangerous areas and for failing to provide the Grant with a safe stairway to enter and exit her apartment.

Grant is asking the Court to award damages for pain, suffering, mental anguish, medical expenses, lost wages, interest and court costs.

New Orleans attorney Robert T. Hughes is representing Grant.

Judge Sidney H. Cates is assigned to the case.
