In a recently filed lawsuit, a victim of a motor vehicle accident involving an 18-wheeler states she still has psychological problems due to an incident that occurred June 29 in Tangipahoa Parish.

Iris Langford filed suit against Great West Casualty Co. and KLLM Transport Services on Sept. 17 in federal court in New Orleans.

Langford was riding as a passenger in a 2010 Toyota Camry, when the vehicle was struck by fragments of a blown out tire from a tractor-trailer owned by the defendant, the suit claims.

Langford states that the impact and collision caused her to be thrown about in the car. She states she is continuing to suffer from multiple personal, psychological and emotional injuries.

Defendant KLLM Transport Services is accused of negligence for failing to observe due caution, failing to properly maintain the vehicle, failing to keep its 18-wheeler in a safe condition, allowing its vehicle to be operated while the driver was in a fatigued physical and mental condition. The defendant is also accused of allowing its vehicle to be operated in a manner that is unsafe for a driver, failing to slow the 18-wheeler so as to avoid tire treads from hitting a vehicle, and negligently and carelessly failing to develop and implement safety policies, maintenance procedures and practices for its vehicles.

Langford is seeking damages for physical pain, suffering, discomfort, mental anguish, aggravation, annoyance, disability, medical expenses, loss of enjoyment of life, loss of use/function of parts of body, bodily disability, impairment of psychological functioning, disability from engaging in recreation, interest and court costs.

She is represented by Colby F. Wenck and Michael Hingle of Michael Hingle & Associates in Covington.

U.S. District Judge Lance M. Africk is assigned to the case.
