Seaman sues over air boat injury

A seaman is suing his employer after he slipped and fell on a board walkway from an air boat.

Scott J. Hughes filed suit against Shaw Environmental Inc. and Coastal Estuary Services on March 2 in federal court in New Orleans.

According to court documents, Hughes suffered severe injuries when he slipped and fell on a board walkway. Hughes states the defendants knew of the condition but failed to correct it.

The defendant is accused of negligence in the construction, design, maintenance and repair of the board walkway.

The plaintiff is seeking damages for mental and physical pain and suffering, medical expenses, loss of earnings and impairment of earning capacity, loss of enjoyment of life, maintenance and cure benefits, punitive damages, court costs and interest.

Hughes is represented by Jim S. Hall and Joseph W. Rausch of Jim S. Hall & Associates in Metairie.

U.S. District Judge Kurt D. Engelhardt is assigned to the case.
