Celebrations rental hall sued for woman's injuries at baby shower

NEW ORLEANS - A local rental hall is being sued by a woman who allegedly sustained injuries when she attended a baby shower at the location.

Doris Rodrigue filed suit on Jan. 11 in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court against Celebrations. Rodrigue claims a decorative structure fell on her and a friend causing them to seek medical treatment. The plaintiff alleges the defendant is liable for improper assembly of the structure, failing to secure the structure, failure to provide warning and failing to barricade the dangerous area.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought to cover pain, suffering, fright, fear, mental anguish, emotional distress, loss of enjoyment of life, temporary of permanent loss of function, temporary or permanent impairment and medical expenses.

The filing does not make clear what specific bodily injuries Rodrigue sustained, but that medical costs are associated.

Rodrigue is being represented by W. Gregory Merritt of New Orleans-based Silbert and Grayson.

The case has been assigned to Division I Judge Piper D. Griffin.
