Big Lots named in slip and fall lawsuit

DONALDSONVILLE – An Iberville Parish woman is suing a discount department store for injuries she claims she received on its premises.

Katherine Lane filed suit on Feb. 3 in the 23rd Judicial District Court against Big Lots Stores, Inc. Lane claims she was shopping at the Gonzales location of Big Lots when she tripped and was injured.

The plaintiff alleges she was walking down an aisle in the store in a controlled manner when she unexpectedly lost her balance after stepping on a slippery substance on the store's floor. Lane asserts she received serious injuries to her hand, arm, wrist and bruises to her back and neck from the fall.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medical expenses, pain and suffering, mental anguish, lost wages, loss of enjoyment of life and permanent partial disability.

Lane is being represented by Steve H. Benton of Baton Rouge-based Benton, Benton and Benton.
