New Orleans Arena sued for woman's fall at NBA game

NEW ORLEANS – A New Orleans woman is suing the operators of a basketball arena for injuries she claims to have suffered on the premises.

Charlotte S. Baker filed suit on Jan. 31 in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court against SMG Crystal and Louisiana Stadium Exposition District.

Baker alleges she was exiting her seating area at the arena when she stepped in a puddle in the aisle and fell. The plaintiff claims she received severe injuries to her right forearm, left thigh, right knee, right armpit and chest. Baker claims she waited until halftime and then visited the arena's first aid station due to feeling discomfort and disorientation. The plaintiff also claims to have received additional treatment at a later date. Baker alleges she did not consume any alcoholic beverages prior to the fall.

The defendants are being accused of negligence because they had knowledge of the hazard and were obligated to keep the aisles and rows free from, food, drink and other hazards and that the arena floor was already very slick without the addition of a liquid.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medical expenses, lost wages, personal injury, pain and suffering, emotional trauma, loss of enjoyment of life, loss of ability to travel and loss of consortium.

Baker is being represented by New Orleans based attorney Sally D. Fleming.

The case has been assigned to Division I Judge Piper D. Griffin.
