Family Dollar sued by woman who claims she tripped on 'hump'

NEW ORLEANS – A Jefferson parish woman is suing Family Dollar Stores for injuries she claims she sustained due to a fall in a store's parking lot.

Joyce Williams filed suit on Feb. 17 in Orleans Parish Civil District Court against Family Dollar Stores, Inc.

Williams claims she was walking across the parking lot of the 4023 Behrman Place store location in New Orleans when she tripped on a "hump" attached to the sidewalk and fell.

The plaintiff alleges she sustained severe injuries to her back, neck, hip, knee and shoulder due to the fall.

The defendant is accused of improperly inspecting the area, improperly maintaining the area, failing to clean the area, not using prudent care, not warning of the dangerous condition, not having a paved area to walk on in the parking lot and failing to level the grass and dirt.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, medical expenses and loss of enjoyment of life.

Williams is being represented by Metairie-based attorney A.J. Rebennack.

The case has been assigned to Division K Judge Chauntis Jenkins.
