DONALDSONVILLE – An Ascension Parish woman is suing a home builder she claims abandoned her incomplete home.
Stephanie Stephens filed suit on June 6 against M&S Builders & Electrical Contractors, LLC, Stanley L. Spence and their insurers.
Stephens claims she contracted M&S to construct a home and attached barn from a building kit she purchased from a manufacturing company for $132,048. The plaintiff alleges the contract she agreed to with M&S was for $228,987.49, but M&S later asked for $21,000 more before completing the project. Stephens asserts M&S abandoned the project after she denied the extra payment and thus breached the contract.
M&S is accused of faulty construction practices in the work they did complete including poorly installed windows, incorrectly installed siding, incorrectly constructed tack room, incorrectly installed barn doors, improperly placed exterior faucets, incomplete walls, incorrectly installed hardware, roughly applied painting, stain and finish, damaged door moulding, uninstalled trim, improper railing, improper light installation, poor paint job, leaky roof and crooked chimney.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought including costs to complete the project, cost of repairs to defects in home, inconveniences and time associated with defects in home and attorney's fees.

The case has been assigned to Division Judge D Alvin Turner, Jr.
