NEW ORLEANS – Plaintiff Valentino Jones filed suit against Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on July 2, claiming he had an exploratory surgery, which resulted in the reversal of his prior colostomy.

Jones claims over a month later he was hospitalized for 19 days due to complications from the surgery.

The defendant is accused of not meeting the pre- and postoperative standard of care by failing to obtain informed consent, failing to keep Jones adequately informed of his condition, failing to properly perform the procedure, failing to provide proper follow-up care, failing to properly treat his surgical wounds, allowing his surgical wounds to become grossly infected, failing to treat his decubitus ulcer and allowing it to become infected and failing to adhere to the standard of care of health professionals.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, mental anguish, medical expenses, lost wages, loss of services and loss of income.

Jones is represented by New Orleans-based attorney Tiffany Thomas Smith.

The case has been assigned to Division H Judge Michael G. Bagneris.

Case no. 2012-06472.
