NEW ORLEANS – A Houma woman is suing the state for injuries she claims to have received in an elevator incident.
Valerie Charmaine Boudreaux filed suit against the State of Louisiana, the Louisiana State University Medical Center, Health Sciences Center, Charity Hospital and Medical Center and Otis Elevator Company in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on July 3.
Boudreaux claims she was visiting her ailing mother at the LSU Interim Hospital and was entering an elevator when the door closed on her foot and she fell to the ground. The plaintiff alleges she was severely injured in the fall and sustained lacerations, bruising, and other injuries to her foot as well as injuries to her hip and lower back.
The defendant is accused of negligently maintaining the elevator and not knowing of the defect.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for mental anguish, lost wages, pain and suffering, medical expenses and loss of enjoyment of life.

The case has been assigned to Division I Judge Piper D. Griffin.
