NEW ORLEANS – A New Orleans woman is suing a building owner for injuries she claims to have received on a set of outside stairs while visiting the building after hours.
Bonita Washington filed suit against AHG Solutions, LLC in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on July 6.
Washington claims she visited the Caldwell Bankers building at 3201 General DeGaulle Dr. in New Orleans to pay a bill, but the building was closed and when she exited down stairs in front of the building she slipped and fell forward extending both of her arms as she fell on top of the stairs. The plaintiff alleges the entrance and stairs were covered in slick marble tile and were wet at the time in addition to there being no handrails available to help assist her.
Washington asserts that she received treatment for injuries to her right wrist, arm, elbow, knees, neck, back, including a fractured rib, building disc and an annulus fibrous tear.
The defendant is accused of improper maintenance of the front steps, maintaining a dangerous front steps, failing to warn pedestrians of the dangerous nature of the area, failing to follow building code requirements for construction of entrance steps and handrails and creating a trap for the petitioner.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medical expenses, loss of enjoyment of life and pain and suffering.

The case has been assigned to Division A Judge Tiffany G. Chase.
