Fired Jefferson Parish school teacher files suit

GRETNA – A former school teacher has filed suit against the Jefferson Parish School Board.

Glenda K. Hano filed suit against the Jefferson Parish School Board in the 24th Judicial District Court on July 12. Hano claims she was a an employee of the defendant for 28 years before she was terminated. The plaintiff alleges that although she was a permanent tenured teacher, she was laid off pursuant to new measures put in place by the school system. Hano asserts that while she was fired other less experienced teachers were brought in to fill her place.

The defendant is accused of wrongful termination, violation of the teacher tenure act, violation of reduction in force statute, violation of evaluation accountability laws and policies and intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress.

The plaintiff seeks a permanent injunction prohibiting her loss of employment and withholding her salary, an order reinstating her in a position of equal rank, an award of lost wages and attorney's fees and legal costs.

Hano is represented by Covington-based Stephen C. Aertker, Jr.

The case has been assigned to Division B Judge Cornelius E. Regan.
