Jefferson Wal-mart sued by man who claims he fell on algae in garden center

Earl G. Perry

GRETNA – A Texas man claims he was injured in a fall on the premises of a discount retailer.

Norris Lewis filed suit against Wal-mart Stores, Inc. and their insurer in the 24th Judicial District Court on July 20. Lewis claims he was shopping in the garden center at the Jefferson Wal-Mart when he slipped on algae and fell to the ground. The plaintiff alleges he struck his head when he hit the ground, but did not seek medical attention until a few days later when he went to the emergency room.

The defendant is accused of failing to properly maintain store, failing to inspect the premises for unsafe conditions and failing to perform routine maintenance so as to not allow the accumulation of algae on the floors.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for injuries.

Lewis is represented by Earl G. Perry of Metairie-based Gauthier, Houghtaling & Williams, LLP.

The case has been assigned to Division C Judge June Berry Darrensburg.

Case no. 717-256.
