GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish woman is suing a company that was raising her home after a handrail they installed allegedly failed and she fell from the elevated stairs.
Nylas Payne filed suit against Orleans Shoring, LLC and its insurer in the 24th Judicial District on July 23. Payne claims Orleans Shoring, LLC was contracted to lift her home when she was trying to enter the home and a handrail provided by the defendants came loose and she fell from the elevated stairs onto the ground. The plaintiff alleges she was injured in the fall.
The defendant is accused of failing to provide a safe and adequate means to enter and exit the home, failing to maintain safe premises, maintaining on its jobsite an inherently dangerous and defective condition, failing to inspect the premises for a hazard and failing to warn the plaintiff of the danger.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medical expenses, pain and suffering and income loss.
Payne is represented by Stephen F. Armbruster of New Orleans-based Scheuermann and Jones, LLC.
The case has been assigned to Division C Judge Juneberry Darensburg.
Case no. 717-372.
