Beaumont woman sues Marriott after being struck by falling ceiling tiles

NEW ORLEANS - A Beaumont, Texas woman has filed a lawsuit against a New Orleans hotel that claims she was hit by falling ceiling tiles and suffered serious injuries.

Delores Calvin Williams filed suit against Marriott International Inc. on July 6 in Orleans Parish District Court. The defendant removed the case to federal court in New Orleans on Aug. 17.

The incident occurred on July 17, 2011 as Williams was at the New Orleans Marriott on Canal Street. She states she was struck by falling ceiling tiles and sustained serious injuries.

The defendant is accused of negligence for failing to maintain a reasonably safe premises, failing to warn, failing to reasonably inspect, and for failing to reasonably repair or remove dangerous conditions.

The plaintiff is asking for an award of damages for loss of earnings and earning capacity, medical expenses, physical and mental anguish, pain, suffering, disability, inconvenience, loss of enjoyment and quality of life, interest, and court costs.

Williams is represented by Donald McKnight, J. Lee Hoffoss Jr., and Claude P. Devall of Newman, Hoffoss & Devall in Lake Charles.
