Insulation company sued in slip and fall case on job site

K. Luke Williamson

BATON ROUGE – A Texas man filed suit against an insulation company after he allegedly slipped and fell at a work site.

Raymond Arthands filed suit against Iberville Insulations and an employee of Iberville Insulations in the 19th Judicial Court on Oct. 9.

On June 15, the plaintiff claims he was employed as a pipefitter by Richard Construction at Valero chemical plant in Norco. Arthands asserts he was attempting to move a metal canister of gas when the unknown employee began spraying water onto fireproofing material from about 10 feet away and the water flowed to the plaintiff's work area. Arthands claims he was injured when he slipped and the canister fell on his legs.

The defendant is accused of creating an unreasonable risk of harm, failing to prevent accidents of this type, failing to issue a warning prior to beginning to spray water and failing to properly secure the area where the insulation work was to be performed.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for a fractured fibula, fractured tibia, mental anguish, emotional distress, loss of enjoyment of life, disability, medical expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering.

The plaintiff is represented by K. Luke Williamson of Williamson Fontenot & Campbell, LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division I Judge R. Michael Caldwell.

Case no. 616084.
