Hospital sued by woman who fell when visiting friend

GRETNA – A New Orleans woman is suing a local hospital for injuries she claims she received in a fall on its premises.

Virginia Smith filed suit against Jefferson Parish Hospital Services District No. 1, West Jefferson Medical Center, Jefferson Parish, Harry L. Cahill and Nancy R. Cassagne in the 24th Judicial District Court on Sept. 4. Smith claims she was visiting a friend at West Jefferson Medial Center located at 1101 Medical Center Blvd. in Marerro when she she slipped and fell on an unknown substance that was leaking on the floor. The plaintiff alleges she was injured in the fall.

The defendant is accused of knowing of or having constructive knowledge of the hazardous condition, failing to exercise reasonable care over the premisses, allowing a condition that presented an unreasonable risk of harm, failing to use reasonable care in warning invitees of the danger of the hazardous condition and failing to exercise reasonable care in addressing the defective condition.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medical expenses, physical pain and suffering, mental pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, disability, loss of earning capacity, lost wages, pre-impact anguish and negligent infliction of emotional distress.

Smith is represented by New orleans-based attorney Ronald Tanet.

The case has been assigned to Division O Judge Ross P. LaDart.
