Chateau Coffee Cafe
NEW ORLEANS – A St. Charles Parish woman is suing a New Orleans coffee house for injuries she claims she received when a chair at the establishment collapsed beneath her.
Donna Helmanson filed suit against Chateau Coffee Cafe, Inc. in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court. Helmanson claims she ordered lunch at Chateau Coffee Cafe and because the inside seating area was full she proceeded to an outdoor table to wait for her lunch and when she sat in a metal chair it fell apart and the left side of the chair struck her on the arm as she was falling to the ground. The plaintiff alleges that she suffered injuries to her left arm, left shoulder and lower back.
The defendant is accused of failing to take safety precautions to protect its customers, failing to maintain property under its care, failing to monitor and inspect property under its care, failing to have a procedure in place to monitor and inspect outdoor furniture and otherwise failing to take precaution to prevent injuries in customers.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, disability, loss of enjoyment of life, medical expenses, lost time from work and attorney's fees.

The case has been assigned to Division G Judge Robin M. Giarrusso.
