Baton Rouge J.C. Penney sued in slip and fall

BATON ROUGE – A Baton Rouge Parish woman is suing a department store after she allegedly suffered injuries on its premises.

Sandra Murray filed suit against J.C. Penney Corporation, Inc. and Chartis Claims Inc. in the 19th Judicial Court on Nov. 16.

Murray claims she was a customer at J.C. Penney located at 6201 Bluebonnet Blvd. on Sept. 11, 2011, when she slipped on an unknown substance and fell to the ground. The fall allegedly resulted in injuries to her back and neck.

The defendant is accused of negligence, failing to inspect areas, failing to keep areas and floors reasonably safe and failing to warn employees and customers of the hazardous condition.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medical expenses, physical pain and suffering, emotional and mental anguish, bodily injury, loss of enjoyment of life, permanent diminished mobility and loss of consortium.

The plaintiff is represented by Michael T. Beckers of Dodson, Hooks and Frederick, APLC.

The case has been assigned to Division E Judge William A. Morvant.
