GRETNA – A Lacombe woman is suing a Harahan hospital for severe burns she claims to have received when she tripped over a fellow patient's hair dryer.
Helen Skinner filed suit against River Oaks, Inc., River Oaks Hospital, Universal Health Systems Foundation and an unknown patient in the 24th Judicial District Court on Dec. 13. Skinner claims that she was an in-patient at River Oaks Hospital and was in a room that shared a bathroom with an adjoining room. The plaintiff alleges that when she went to use the bathroom a woman in the adjoining room was washing her hair in the sink and had a hair dryer next to her that had its electric cord on the floor. Skinner asserts as she entered the bathroom she tripped over the electric cord and received severe burns when the hair dryer hit her.
The defendants are accused of negligence.
An unspecified amount of damages is sought for medical treatment, pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life and mental anguish.

The case has been assigned to Division I Judge Nancy A. Miller.
