City of Gretna sued by woman who tripped and fell on sidewalk

GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish woman is suing the City of Gretna for injuries she claims to have received when she tripped and fell on a public sidewalk.

Betty O. Hoffman filed suit against the City of Gretna in the 24th Judicial District Court on Jan. 14.

Hoffman claims she was a walking near the address of 735 Huey P. Long on Jan. 16, 2012 when she tripped and fell on an allegedly improperly installed and poorly constructed sidewalk. The plaintiff alleges she received severe injuries to her mouth, teeth and knees in the fall.

The defendant is accused of failing to maintain the sidewalk, improper installation of the sidewalk, failing to see what should have been seen, failing to warn of the dangerous condition of the sidewalk and failing to take necessary actions to avoid the plaintiff's injuries.

An unspecified amount of damages is sought for medical expenses, mental anguish and pain and suffering.

Hoffman is represented by Roy J.D. Gattuso of Gretna-based Vezina & Gattuso LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division E Judge John J. Molaison Jr.

Case no. 722-859.
