GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish woman is suing a Metairie law firm for allegedly overcharging in legal matters concerning her husband's estate.
Mona Monroe filed suit against Paul A. Deas and Deas & Deas in the 24th Judicial District Court on Jan. 31.
Monroe claims she retained Deas & Deas to provide legal services and represent her concerning legal issues over her deceased husband's estate. The plaintiff alleges the defendant represented her until Sept. 7, 2012.
The defendant is accused of failing to provide a true and accurate explanation of attorney's fees, systematically failing to maintain a true and accurate record of services, systematically overcharging the plaintiff for services, requiring the plaintiff to pay large sums of money for unjustified services, systematically failing to communicate with the plaintiff after repeated attempts and failing to provide legal services within the applicable standard of Louisiana lawyers in the area of practice.
The plaintiff is seeking the return of $60,000 she allegedly paid to the the defendants and damages for mental anguish, inconvenience, attorney's fees, penalties, court costs, breach of contract and breach of fiduciary duty.
Monroe is represented by R. Brent Cueria of the New Orleans-based Cueria Law Firm LLC.
The case has been assigned to Division G Judge Robert A. Pitre Jr.
