GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish woman is suing a local school district for damages to her son's hand she claims occurred when it was slammed in a bathroom door.
Equila Williams, on behalf of her minor son, filed suit against the Jefferson Parish School Board in the 24th Judicial District Court on March. 8.
Williams claims her son was attending Terrytown Elementary School on Sept. 24, 2012 when he opened a bathroom door and it fell back on his hand. The plaintiff alleges that her son’s hand was severely injured in the incident for which he had to undergo medical treatment.
The defendant is accused of failing to maintain the school in reasonably safe condition, failing to safeguard the premises to protect the plaintiff’s son, failing to warn students of the dangerous condition of the door, failing to discover and correct dangerous conditions and failing to inspect the premises for dangerous or unsafe conditions.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, discomfort, mental anguish, aggravation, annoyance, disability, physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, medical expenses, lost wages, loss of enjoyment of life, loss of use and function of parts of his body, bodily disability, impairment of psychological functioning, disability from working to earn an income, destruction of earning capacity and disability from engaging in recreation.

The case has been assigned to Division A Judge Raymond S. Steib Jr.
