Engineering company suing over property destroyed by bore drilling

GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish engineering firm is suing a Texas-based subcontractor after it allegedly tore through a vent pipe at a gas station while drilling for bore samples.

The Gray Insurance Company and Eustis Engineering Company LLC filed suit against Triangle Resources Inc. and American Liberty Insurance in the 24th Judicial District Court on May 2.

Eustis Engineering Company claims it subcontracted Triangle Resources Inc. to obtain bore samples from the Shell Service Station located at Clearview Parkway and West Esplanade Ave. in Metairie. The plaintiff alleges the on June 18, 2012 the defendant drilled at the station to obtain the bore samples and cut through a vent pipe, which resulted in significant property damage.

The defendant is accused of failing to perform the task of properly, drilling to obtain bore samples, failing to properly inspect the area prior to drilling, failing to realize drilling encountered a vent pipe and failing to warn of potential risk of damage after cutting through vent pipe.

Damages in excess of $50,000 are sought for property damage.

The plaintiffs are represented by Bradford H. Walker of Metairie-based Walker Daly LLP.

The case has been assigned to Division K Judge Ellen Shirer Kovach.
