NEW ORLEANS – A New Orleans teacher is suing the school district where she was formerly employed after they allegedly renewed her contract was canceled.
Angela Holliman filed suit against the Recovery School District (RSD) through the Louisiana State department of Education in the Orleans Parish Central District Court on July 19 claiming wrongful termination.
Holliman had been employed by the RSD since 2006. She claims she received a phone call on July 10 informing her that she had been rehired for the 2012-13 school year and to report for work a week later. On July 20 she received another phone call telling her not to report to work on July 23.
Holliman claims that by offering the job then unilaterally voiding the offer, the RSD violated a verbal contract of employment.
The defendant is accused of breach of contract and wrongful termination at Benjamin Banneker Elementary School.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for damages under the applicable state law for breach of contract, lost salary, mental anguish and emotional distress.
Holliman is represented by attorney Willie M. Zanders of New Orleans.
The case has been assigned to division L Judge Kern A. Reese.
