GRETNA – A dentist is being sued by a patient for allegedly not producing a permanent bridge that worked properly after conducting oral surgery for that purpose.
Johnika Gayden filed suit against Daryl Byrd DDS in the 24th Judicial District Court on Oct. 16.
The plaintiff claims that on May 30, 2011 she received oral surgery from the defendant and he also made impressions for a permanent bridge. Gayden assert that a permanent bridge was produced by Dr. Byrd that was difficult for him to place and did not function properly.
The plaintiff alleges she filed a complaint with the Louisiana Board of Dentistry and after an examination it was found that she had received substandard care.
The defendant is accused of deviation from standard of care, failing to exercise expected skill, failing to use reasonable care and diligence and failing to properly diagnose and treat the condition.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medical expenses, mental anguish and suffering and physical pain and suffering.
Gayden is represented by attorney Anthony L. Glorioso of Metairie.
The case has been assigned to Division M Judge Henry G. Sullivan Jr.
