GRETNA – A local grocery store is being sued by a woman who claims she was seriously injured after slipping and falling in a puddle.

Sadie Brown filed suit against Winn-Dixie Montgomery LLC and their insurer in the 24th Judicial District Court on Dec. 9.

Brown asserts that she was shopping at the Winn-Dixie located at 2112 Belle Chasse Hwy. in Terrytown when she slipped and fell in a puddle of liquid near the cash register. The plaintiff alleges she received severe, disabling and painful progressive injuries in the incident.

The defendant is accused of creating a slip hazard, failing to provide safe design and upkeep, failing to make a timely inspection of the area and failing to properly train and supervise employees.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, mental anguish, emotional distress, loss of enjoyment of life, medial expenses, household expenses, loss of income and loss of earning capacity and not knowing of the unsafe condition.

Brown is represented by J. Bart Kelly of New Orleans-based Alvendia, Kelly & Demarest.

The case has been assigned to Division B Judge Cornelius E. Regan.

Case no. 733-661.
