GRETNA – The property insurer for a local shopping center is suing the company that installed and maintained a sprinkler system after it allegedly failed and caused property damage.
Federal Insurance Company, Underwriters at Lloyd’s of London and Broadwall Management Corporation filed suit against Jefferson Sprinkler Incorporated in the 24th Judicial District Court on March 7.
The plaintiffs claim they were the property insurers and owners of One Galleria Blvd. in Metairie where a sprinkler system installed and serviced by Jefferson Sprinkler Incorporated was located. The plaintiffs allege the defendants periodically inspected and tested the sprinkler system and it was during such a period that one of the pipes failed and caused significant property damage. At issue, according to the plaintiffs, was the use of adjoining pipes of two different thicknesses, which caused a structural deficiency.
The defendant is accused of failing to properly maintain the sprinkler system, failing to properly design and maintain the sprinkler system, failing to properly repair the sprinkler system, failing to properly install the failed pipe, failing to warn about the risk of a sprinkler failure and poor worksmanship.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for property damage and losses.
The plaintiffs are represented by Philip S. Brooks of New Orleans-based Montgomery Barnett LLP.
The case has been assigned to Division P Judge Lee V. Faulkner Jr.
