GRETNA – Two passengers on a bus that was allegedly struck by a deputy employed by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office are suing.
David Hill and Reaper Jones filed suit against Nick Garnier and Sheriff Newell Normand, indiviually and in his capacity as Sheriff of the Parish of Jeffesron, in the 24th Judicial District Court on April 22.
Hill and Jones claim that on April 24, 2013 they were riding in a bus on Highway 90 in Harvey when Garnier, driving a 2011 Ford Crown Victoria police cruiser owned by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, struck the bus. The plaintiffs allege they suffered serious personal injuries and property damage in the collision.
The defendant is accused of failing to maintain control of the vehicle, failing to keep a proper lookout, driving in a careless and reckless manner, failing to see what should have been seen and failing to keep a proper distance between vehicles.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, medical expenses and economic damages.
Hill and Jones claim are represented by attorney Pierre F. Gaudin of Gretna.
The case has been assigned to Division B Judge Cornelius E. Regan.
