GRETNA – A discount retailer is being sued by a customer who claims she was severely injured after slipping and falling in a puddle of water.

Susette Bradley filed suit against Dolgencorp LLC and Dollar General in the 24th Judicial District Court on April 15.

Bradley alleges she was a customer at the Dollar General located at 714 Terry Parkway in Terrytown on April 24, 2013 when she was walking in front of a display case where several cases of water were stacked and slipped in a puddle of water and fell to the floor.

The plaintiff asserts that in the fall her right leg became pinned underneath her causing serious injury including a bruised bone, the buildup of fluid under her kneecap and strain of a ligament.

The defendant is accused of failing to do what should have been done, failing to keep a clear pathway at all times, disregarding the safety of others, failing to notice the imminence of an accident, creating a trap, improper and inadequate maintenance, maintaining defective premises and failing to warn of a defect.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medical expenses, pain and suffering and loss of enjoyment of life.

Bradley is represented by Robert W. Grant of Gretna-based Grant & Barrow.

The case has been assigned to Division G Judge Robert A. Pitre Jr.

Case no. 737-564.
