NEW ORLEANS – A local woman is suing her insurance company claiming it underpaid damages sustained during Hurricane Isaac.
Sheila W. Frey filed suit against State Farm Fire and Casualty Company in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on March 5.
Frey alleges she held a policy on her property at 5439 Royal St. in New Orleans during Hurricane Isaac. She asserts she filed a claim for damages from Isaac including roof damage, water damage, exterior and interior damage and various other coverages. The suit alleges the adjuster did not spend adequate time to assess her damages and took advantage of her lack of knowledge.
A Sept. 6, 2012 estimate listed her damages at $25,000, but a subsequent re-inspection allegedly raised her damages to $34,000, the suit claims. Frey argues that her damages are actually more than $95,000, according to independent adjuster Homeland Solutions LLC.
The plaintiff is represented by Shelly R. Hale, J. Andrew Lewis Jr. and Catherine Hilton of Counsel-Speights & Horrich of New Orleans.
