Fast food restaurant sued by couple allegedly injured in collapsing bench

GRETNA – A fast food restaurant is being sued by a a married couple after they were allegedly injured when a bench collapsed beneath them.

Sonya and Christian Lacuira filed suit against in the 24th Judicial District Court on Sept. 18.

The Lacuiras claim they were customers at the Rally’s located at 1720 Veterans Blvd. in Metairie when a bench they were sitting on collapsed beneath them. Due to the incident the plaintiffs allege that Sonya Lacuira received severe and disabling injuries to her teeth, neck and back and Christian Lacuira received severe and disabling injuries to his neck and back. The Lacuiras contend that due to their injuries they had to seek medical treatment.

The defendant is accused of failing to maintain premises in a safe manner, failing to maintain a safe environment for its customers and allowing a dangerous and hazardous condition to exist on its premises.

Damages in excess of $50,000 are sought for physical pain and suffering, mental pain and suffering, medical expenses, disability and loss of life’s enjoyment.

The Lacuiras are represented by Stephen P. Bruno of New Orleans-based Bruno & Bruno.

The case has been assigned to Division I Judge Nancy A. Miller.
