Motorist sues after allegedly being injured when 18-wheeler opens door into her moving car

GRETNA – The driver of an 18-wheeler and its owner are being sued for injuries a motorist claims she received when the driver opened his door into her moving vehicle.

Laken Brown filed suit against Karlos Austin, Predestination Transportation LLC, Wood Fruitticher Grocery Company Inc. and Technology Insurance Company Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court on Oct. 9.

Brown asserts that on Oct. 9, 2013 she was driving her car on 18th St. in Metairie when Austin, who was in a stopped 18-wheeler, opened his vehicle’s door into her car. The plaintiff claims she suffered severe physical and psychological injuries in the accident.

The defendant is accused of careless operation of a motor vehicle, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and failing to see what should have been seen.

Damages not to exceed $50,000 is sought for reimbursement, medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages, loss of earning capacity and attorney’s fees.

Brown is represented by attorney Thomas E. Campbell of Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division H Judge Glenn B. Ansardi.
