Client sues personal injury lawyers for alleged legal malpractice

NEW ORLEANS- A woman is suing two attorneys claiming their alleged negligence caused her to lose money.

Lisa Jarreau filed suit against Thomas E. Gibbs d/b/a/ The Law Office of Thomas Gibbs and Robert T. Talley on April 15th in the Orleans Parish District Court.

Jarreau claims the defendants represented her in connection to injuries she suffered at an event on July 31, 2008 at the Sheraton Hotel in New Orleans. The defendants filed an original petition for damages on behalf of the plaintiff on July 28, 2009 against Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide and Westinghouse Elevator Company in the Civil District Court for the parish of New Orleans. 

On Sept. 4, 2012, the defendants filed a “first supplement and amending petition” naming the Schindler Elevator Company as an additional defendant. 

On April 10, 2015 Judge Robin Giarusso dismissed all claims against Schindler Elevator Company based on prescription. All defendants have been dismissed from the original suit given the hotel was previously dismissed. 

The defendant is accused of negligence and legal malpractice.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, medical expenses, lost income, emotional distress, loss of enjoyment of life and any other damages the law allows including amounts exceeding $50,000.

The plaintiff is represented by Laurence Cohen.

The case has been assigned to Division M Judge Paulette R. Irons.

Case no. 2015-3526.
